Reaching out for support takes real courage, and we are honored you are considering us. You do not need to have it all figured out, and you do not need the perfect words to describe what you are feeling — that is exactly what the first conversation is for. Our role is to meet you where you are, listen without judgment, and help you find a path forward that fits your life, your schedule, and what feels manageable right now. Whether this is your first time seeking therapy or you have been through it before, the process below is designed to be simple, unhurried, and entirely at your pace. We will walk through the rest together.

After You Submit

1

We review your info within 12 to 24 hours — though our average response time is about 6 hours.

2

A clinician contacts you via your preferred method to discuss fit and availability.

3

We text to confirm you are ready to get started, then send your SimplePractice invite to complete consent forms before your first session.

How We Work

All sessions via Doxy.me, a HIPAA-compliant platform. No download or account required.
Telephone therapy is available as an alternative to video for patients who prefer it.
Sessions are 50 to 60 minutes, with evening and weekend availability. No waitlist; patients are typically seen the same week.
You must be physically located in California at the time of each session.

What to Have Ready

Your insurance card or plan name, if you have one. Not required to submit.
A general sense of what you are hoping to work on. One sentence is enough.
Your preferred days and times for sessions. We will do our best to accommodate.

Your First Session

A The first session is an intake. Your clinician will ask about your history, goals, and what support looks like for you.
B You will not be asked to commit to a treatment plan on day one. That comes later, together.
C Informed consent paperwork is completed before your first session through our secure patient portal.
D Questions are welcome. There is no such thing as too small or too early to ask.
E You can switch clinicians at any time if the fit is not right. It will not offend us.
F Feeling nervous before a first session is normal, and that feeling usually eases within the first few minutes.

Have Medi-Cal?

You may already have Partnership HealthPlan.

PMHS accepts Medi-Cal only through Partnership HealthPlan of California. Many Medi-Cal members have PHP as their managed care plan and do not know it. If you do, your therapy is typically covered at no out-of-pocket cost. We verify your specific plan during your intake session.

1 Check your Medi-Cal benefits card for the name "Partnership HealthPlan" or "PHP."
2 Call PHP Member Services at 1-800-863-4155 to confirm your plan.
3 Submit the form anyway. We will verify your benefits and walk you through everything.

PHP Serves These 24 Counties

Humboldt Siskiyou Trinity Shasta Lassen Modoc Mendocino Lake Napa Solano Yolo Del Norte Tehama Glenn Butte Colusa Marin Nevada Placer Plumas Sierra Sonoma Sutter Yuba
PHP members access outpatient mental health therapy without a referral from a primary care physician.
PHP covers telehealth therapy at the same rate as in-person under California's telehealth parity law.
Children and teens under 21 may qualify for expanded coverage under EPSDT, California's early and periodic screening benefit.
